Mitsugo Kabosu Sansho belongs to Matsui Shuzo's Kagura Mitsugo series of fruit liqueurs made on unfiltered sake at its Kyoto brewery. It pairs juice from Oita-grown kabosu, a tart green citrus, with sansho pepper; each 710 ml bottle holds the equivalent of about twelve kabosu.
The aroma brings green kabosu, sansho berries and fresh young leaves. Mellow, tangy citrus gives way to the sansho's light, tingling heat and a clean, green finish. Made to go with food, it is good on the rocks or long with tonic, soda or dry ginger ale. Shake gently before pouring.
