This KUMANO whisky is a blended malt from Kishu Kumano Distillery in Wakayama. It brings together malt whisky made at the distillery with malt whisky from Scotland, ages the blend for at least three years in oak, then gives it around six more months in casks of Mizunara, the rare Japanese oak.
Floral notes lead, with forest floor, apricot and kumquat developing behind them and a gentle sweetness from the Mizunara wood. The finish is lightly peppery and earthy, with a whiff of pine. Bottled at 43% with no age statement, it is good neat, with a splash of water, or in a highball.
